Denotation and connotation - WaterAid

Create a new blogpost in your GCSE Media blog called 'Denotation and connotation'.

1) Write an analysis of the WaterAid advert above using denotation, connotation and analysis. What can you see? What are the deeper meanings in the advert? What does the advert communicate to the audience? How might an audience react after seeing the advert?

Denotations: A young boy standing looking sad close to the camera in a village(Symbolic Code).
The brand "wateraid"(Symbolic Code)
Slogan(Written Code)
Colours; Blue and White, representing water.(Symbolic Code)

Connotations: The image shows a likely upset boy staring at the fourth wall(camera)this can make the audience rather emotionally and make us engage in helping. The slogan means that that we need to help to save them and avoid death from illness or diseases.

2) Now choose your own choice of advert from Google images. Save it to your documents, insert it into your blogpost and write an analysis using denotation and connotation, explaining what the advert is communicating to the audience.

Transformers One (2024)

Denotation: futuristic city(symbolic) robots (symbolic) various colours (symbolic)

slogan (written) glowing backgrounds (symbolic)

Connotations: the image shows 5 robot figures standing heroically which shows its an action thriller type of film, plus the big golden letters as the title card, the one means that its the 'beginning' of this franchise. Also the blue glow in the centre represents that it plays an important role in the movie.

Analysis: They possibly could've chose this poster to get the audience who is possibly into this type of genre (like me :)) like action, the prediction of the future and sci-fi.the slogan could also mean the things that were seen before a rivalry between the first two characters that were rather friends than enemies.
